Rhevision Technology, Inc., founded in 2006, is a premier optical technology company located in San Diego, California. Rhevision invented and has developed the most advanced liquid lens based Miniature Tunable Camera Lenses (MTCL’s). Our products include both fixed and >3x optical zoom and auto-focus lens systems targeting multiple billion dollar high-growth markets such as hand held devices, camera phones, security devices and video conferencing.

Our technology is based on the most efficient lenses in the world, nature’s lenses, whether bird, fish, or human. By making small changes in their shape, nature’s lenses can be tuned to optimize images over various focal distances. Traditional optical design tries to achieve similar results by combining glass or plastic elements that must move back and forth to accomplish focus or zoom. A typical traditional lens system can require many elements to operate properly.

Rhevision’s game changing technology, spun out of University of California San Diego’s optics laboratory, combines fluidics and optics in a unique manner, much like nature, allowing us to make highly tunable, miniature optical lenses that require far fewer elements than traditional lenses, and that can be manufactured through a low cost manufacturing process.

Our lenses mimic the eye in nature, through the movement of small amounts of fluid into or out of a lens chamber. Because of our unique solution, our lenses enjoy a tuning range of 200 dioptres, or 10 times the tuning range of a human eye. Consequently our lenses can be tuned through microscopic, macroscopic and out through telescopic ranges. In short, Rhevision has developed a disruptive miniature lens technology that is unreachable by any competitor.

Miniature cameras are integrated into many products and applications, including cell phones, digital still cameras, video conferencing systems, PDA’s, notebook computers, security cameras and other industrial and medical products. The surge in growth has been driven by the development of high quality image sensors but use of these cameras has been limited by the quality of the optics.

Miniature cameras typically do not possess the combination of features of optical zoom, auto-focus, and tunable field-of-view as larger digital still cameras because the traditional design of the optical lens systems for still cameras cannot fit into the small form factor of miniature cameras. Rhevision’s MTCL’s are the optimal solution to this problem eclipsing all other solutions in terms of size, performance, cost and practicality.
